Family Night Ideas

Posted by Kingdom Kidz Ministry

Family night.  What do they look like?  What should we do?  How often should my family be having them?  These are all questions that are asked when it comes to family night.  And quite honestly, family night looks like what you want it to look like.  Sometimes it may be a devotional, sometimes a game night or an extended storytime. Sometimes it's a movie and popcorn night!  As a young family with 3 little ones, we are still learning what our family night should look like.  But one thing I do know is that my kids notice when we miss a week for whatever reason.  They look forward to spending that quality time together. They enjoy all being in one room and taking part in the same task.  However, I do understand how difficult it can be to fit in those times in the midst of sports schedule, work schedules, vacations and all the other obligations that fill our time.  With that, we want to give you a couple of ideas that will maybe help you with your family night times.

Standing Together as Family

Matthew 12:25 says  “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand."

  • It is important to teach our families the importance of standing together and being on the same team.  To demonstrate this, gather some legos or blocks.
  • Begin building a house together.
  • While building discuss what it means to be a team and how important it is to build one another up and encourage one another.
  • When the house is complete, 2 people should take a part of the house and pull.
  • What happens to the house?  Our house will not stand if we are divided within our family.  In order to stay strong as a family unit, we need to work together to build one another up in love.
Shining for Jesus (obtained from www.kidsofintegrity.com)

You will need some dirty pennies, two small bowls, salt, vinegar, cotton swabs (the double-ended stick swabs) and a copy of these paragraphs to serve as your “instructions.”
  • Begin by telling your children that you need to clean some pennies and you have read that you can use vinegar to clean them.
  • Put some pennies in the bowl. Dip a cotton swab in vinegar and try to clean the pennies. (You might see a slight cleaning effect, but nothing significant.)
  • Pretend that you are disappointed in the results. Then say, “I guess I should have read the instructions more carefully.” Consult your instructions and then say, “Now I understand! I was supposed to mix salt into the vinegar.”
  • Now have your children help you stir 1 tsp. of salt into ¼ cup of vinegar. Have them stir until the salt is dissolved.
  • When the salt is completely dissolved, allow your children to put the pennies into the mixture. You may need to stir the solution a bit, but the results will be startlingly different – your efforts will produce some clean and shiny pennies.
  • Explain that we are like the vinegar and the salt is like the Holy Spirit. We can try to be obedient on our own, but it is hard to obey when we try to do it in our own strength. It is much easier to obey when we ask God for help from His Holy Spirit.
  • Give each of your children a shiny penny to remind them how brightly their righteousness shines when they obey God.
Obedience is not and easy task for our children (or us!) and neither is the concept of the holy spirit. This is a great activity to show our children the importance obeying their parents, teachers, others in authority and more importantly, God.

Try these ideas and each switch it up...play some games, watch a movie, go to a local playground and climb the monkey bars together.  The point is to spend quality time with your family and give your children your undivided attention.  Have fun!

    Thank you Pastor Danielle

We want to take this time to thank Pastor Danielle for serving our children and families over the past 3 years.  We appreciate her love and ministry to our children.  Here are just a few words that she wanted to share from her heart:

"Thank you so much for the opportunity to minister to your children over the last 3 years. It was such a joy to get to know you and your families. Each of you will hold a special spot in my heart. Thank you! I will miss being with your kids but look forward to seeing them in Revolution."
Continuing to pray with and for each of you,

What our Kingdom Kidz are Learning and VBS Re-cap...

    Posted by Kingdom Kidz Ministry

Little Squires:  Our little guys have started to learn about a new Bible character...Moses.  This past week we were introduced to Moses and his family.  The children were taught about how much Moses' family loved and him and what they had to do to take care of him as a baby.  This month's story will reinforce the importance of taking care of our family members.  Ask your child how they would take care of baby.  What are some things they would have done to take care of baby Moses?

Noble Knights:  Joshua 2:1-24 tells us the story of Rahab who helps two spies. By helping the spies she was able to protect them from their enemy.  The children were taught and are encouraged to believe that God uses helpers to protect us sometimes.  Ask your child how God protects them.  Who else does God use to protect them?

Kids Church:  Matthew 14:22-33 tells of the miracle of Peter walking on water.  This was probably a scary experience for Peter.  But the children learned to believe that His Word is true.  What he says in his word is true for us.  We are not to let fear keep us from having faith in Jesus.

VBS:   What a wonderful week we had at VBS.  By the end of the week, all the children were "knighted" because they had learned the importance of the armor of God.  They made a different piece of the armor each night and enjoyed hearing the great stories from the Bible each night.  Over 100 children attended and 15 of those children accepted Christ as their Savior.  God blessed each volunteer and child with a fantastic week together.  Thank you to all our volunteers and to all our parents who diligently brought their children out each night.  Here is a video to give you a glimpse of our week.

    Lessons from May 22nd...

Little Squires:  Our little guys are still learning about God's wonderful creation. SUMMER has finally arrived!  Get your little ones outside to expore!  Grab and magnifying glass and see what small critters live under our feet.  Talk about how God created each creature so uniquely and remind your child that God also created him/her uniquely and in their own special way.

Noble Knights:  The Children learned about the story of Jesus healing 10 lepers.  The story can be found in Luke 17:11-10.  Out of the 10 lepers healed, only one came back to thank Jesus.  We used this story to teach the children that we need to be thankful when Jesus heals us.  Ask your child these questions to help them remember the story.  Whom did Jesus heal?  Were they thankful?  Whom should we thank when we are healed?

Kids Church:  This past week the kids began their series on the miracles of Jesus.  They began with the story of the wedding in Cana when Jesus turned the water into wine.  This story can be found in
John 2:1-11.  The children saw an illustration with food coloring to have a better understanding of what that miracle was actually like for the people that were there that day.  It is hard for us today to grasp these miracles but it is important for our children to learn that not only did Jesus perform these miracles then but he still performs today in each of our lives.
